  • Fishroom Build (with pics)

I'm nuts!! And i think i'm going to post this thread as a reminder of my insanity.

Too many tanks lying around. I think it's time for them to go into a room by themselves.
Finally cleaned out the garage. Tore down the sheetrock and framed out half the 2-car garage by dividing it straight down the middle.

I went to HD to pick up some studs, and came home with these pink ones! I'm not exactly what the difference is between the pink and the unpainted ones.. Anyone knows?

It's been such a long time since i have done any construction. While shopping for sheetrock, i was getting frustrated that i cannot find any greenboard, only to be told that greenboard was no longer being produced! Replaced by Purpleboard! So purple it is!

    more to come....

looks good. I think the pink studs are for framing. The are the bad quilty ones with a lot of knots or somthing in them that they reject for finishing carpentry or something like that.

I could never do this. I would end up tearing out that back wall and turning half my house into a fish "room".
Looks awesome so far. Can't wait to see more.

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Tape, Float, Sand, Paint, hung the door and some electrical.... it's been an exhausting weekend....
Oddly enough, the most exhausting part was standing in front of the paint department at HD and deciding what color to pic!
Finally decided with tan walls with white ceiling & door. Hopefully it should keep everything nice and bright.
Whatddayall think? Btw... the garage has floor dimesnions of 18' x 9'. That should translate into LOTS of tanks

Next up.... epoxy the garage floor.
After being strongly dissuaded from using the $70 home depot stuff from several people, i decided to go with the professional stuff from these guys:
                      http://www.epoxy-coat.com/catalog/in...roducts_id=124

Together with $50 shipping... it burnt quite a big hole in my wallet. Hopefully it's a worthwhile investment.
The kit should arrive sometime this week. Hopefully i can get a free evening to etch & epoxy the floor.

More updates later as things progress....

                        Hi Thomas!
Yep.. i'm back. Now that nobody's drilling any deepwater wells offshore, i get to be on land for a while.

Are you going to have central air and heat in this room or heaters and chillers in each tank?

Room looks great. I would never get away with this at my house.

I think Marc will find a dehumidifier useful for that room :)

I'm envious. I think you did a great job. I just noticed 1 slight issue....plumbing? Are you going to plumb a utility sink? or just run a hose from a spigot? It just seems to me with such a great effort and good look you could work in a sink of some sort. Or are you going to have some elaborat system that drains and refills tanks. I've heard of other people creating complicated water changing systems. which if your working offshore I'm assuming your 2/3 on 2/3 off. an auto waterchanging system might be the most awesomest thing you could do!
