  • Used Buckets OK?

My wife bought me a bunch of 5 gal and 3 gal buckets at a garage sale for dirt cheap. Some used to be pool chemical buckets and one was an old laundry soap bucket. Some of them have a sticky residue in them and some have dirt residue in them.

Can I reasonably clean these to where I could use them in a fish application or would I be better off buying new ones since I have no idea what has been inside them?

I wouldn't risk it. You can use them for something else though

Outside add a couple of cups of muratic acid to 1 bucket and fill with water. Let it soak for a couple of hours and dump this mix into the next bucket. Continue on down the line. Then rinse everything with water real good. To dispose of the muratic acid add a cup of baking soda to neutralize it and dump it down a drain. It should clean up any residues so you can use them for anything. Do not breath it or get it on your skin. Only work with muratic acid outside.

very useful!!!....i got a few buckets like http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/VES...tic-Pail-1TMH5 from work.....i have a nice little pump....and want to make a simple filter out of one of those buckets....but like BeefyG......a powder based chemical for mixing drilling mud was in it......Sound like that method would really clean the buckets out.....hmmmmmmmmmmmm....been wondering this for a while too..

dont mean to whore ur thread buddy....same topic...lol

I wouldn't trust it. Much safer, besides buying a brand new bucket, would be to cat litter buckets. Just one rinse and they are fine.
