  • My first attempt at drilling glass

Well, for over 20 years, I've been having other people drill my tanks whenever I needed that done. Mainly because I didn't have the equipment and for a while it was too expensive to get it but partially it was because I was a little afraid to tackle it.

Today, I took my first shot at it and it was alot easier that I thought it was going to be. I even videoed it with my blackberry which was in a piece of foam wedged between two rocks. (DIY camera holder) Picture quality is ok but you will have to turn the sound way up to hear me talk.

So today, I drilled my first hole in glass, and uploaded my first video.

Turns out if I start a little slower on the speed, I don't get all the jumping around that you see in the beginning of the video as I start to drill.

Hope this helps someone else get over the fear of drilling glass.

Nice Video but actualy you start on the high speed but you need to start with more angle than you started with give that a try next time I've drilled about 70 holes in glass and well over 200 in granite and tile it works
    Great for me

one of the guys on another forum suggested making a template out of wood and holding it in place to get the hole started. Just passing along the info. I kind of like just starting it by hand so far.

I was surprised to hear/see that the drilling process started out on an angle....I've always used the pilot drill to establish a starting point ....??

there is no pilot in a glass hole saw like there is in a wood hole saw.

I ordered a couple from gl*******s.com. they got here really quick. I still haven't done the tank. waiting on my brother to visit to help me lug the big glass box to the back yard.
