What size drill bit did you use? 1 1/2 or 1 3/4?

I want to see more about your lighting system. I have a butt load of HID's laying around and never considered them for tanks.

Well. I'm going to be running 3 computer supplies and 3 sets of HID's. Gonna try to just run 2 power supplies once I get capacitors worked into my set-up. HID's draw a bit more amps at start up, hence some nice capacitors so power supplies can run smooth.... I'll have pix n a couple weeks...

How much did the light setup cost you?

using all old light minus 1 new set....40 bucks......I have plenty of old power supplies lying around...a few 120 mm fans for cooling, even though its not really needed....Pretty much 40 bucks and trust me, I'm going to make this as neat and compact as i can. If ya can, hold your questions till i get everything installed and running then i'll post pix and more information. But if you have any more advise or comments, please help yourself.

I'll tell you what....when i was drilling the holes i was so worried about messing up my tank....but with a lot of patients and a nice smooth drill it worked out pretty well. This glass was thick!!

well...Shes gone under....This is a used tank...and finally cleaned it up....and noticed some scratches and a nick on the glass....so hopefully it wont bug me to where I end up getting a new tank....

Probably wondering why i do all this DIY work.........I'm home for 6 months outa the year.....so i blame that and the fact I like to just learn how everything works.....well this is one of the filters i'm going to be using, which is rated at over 400GPH. Its a 6 gallon water tight bucket (has rubber o-ring)and works awesome. Have a wet test run to test everything before i put her in the house....not a drip anywhere and oh so quiet

+1 that looks like a chlorine bucket with a o-ring you might want to test it again with the tank on the stand cause the pressure on the bucket will be greater when on the stand. Oh did you ever replace those fittings with bulkheads?

And yes patience is the key when drilling a tank. try drilling 1" glass that took all my patience 15 minutes each hole

well i'm pretty confident you guys...so just relax..lol......end product is gonna be great! I was just giving updates.

its not a normal bucket and i trust it more that my fluval 305,405 filters....My Rena filter xp3 has been best....i'm sure this 35 dollar bucket will hold up just fine. They use them to ship chemicals and such offshore and trust me they can take a beating and can withstand some harsh chemicals....
