  • DIY bio media bags

Does anyone know what works best to hold ceramic rings and other types of bio media?

For a canister or HOB? I've had a great experience with nylon stockings. The only reason for which I'd purchase Seachem's "The Bag" is to house Purigen, since bleach eats right through stitched seams whenever you need to recharge the stuff... as I so happily learned yesterday.

In general. For canister, HOB, or wet dry. Where are these nylon stockings? Are you referring to panty hose?

Yep! Panty hose has worked like a charm for bio media. Been using it ever since my dad suggested it for our first canister ever back in 1990.

Thanks for the clarification, b. Somehow people on this forum always think I'm a boy! Maybe I should have some girly stuff as my avatar... like pink flowers and hearts or something nauseating like that.

Hahahahaha well then it's a good thing I don't care enough to put up a pink icon. Let me know if I need to call in some anti-nausea medication to your local pharmacy.

BTW Robert, I've also seen netted jewelry bags used for nano canisters. They work very well also!

I use cheap pantyhose for bio media. Also will pick up knee-hi packages when they have them 4 for a $1. Works great. For protection over filter intakes, I use netting called "tulle" you can get at fabric or hobby stores for pennies. Like $2 a yard! Wrap and secure with rubber band.
                      Thanks so much,
                      Lydia
