Help I need to get my Drift wood to sink !

What are other ways that have worked for you guys in sinking DW? Also is drilling or nailing pices of wood frowned apon? Reason why im asking is because I have three pieces that I want to connect together. and fishing line just isnt doing it ...

how big is the piece? u have rocks in the tanks? if you have rocks i usually just surround the DW with it to "hold it".

or just find a flat piece of rock and tie it to the DW and then bury the rock where only the DW shows...

if you drill and screw the wood make sure to use stainless steel screws. and you can try to boil the wood depending on how big it is.

try some kind of fish safe wood glue or try hot glue... i just put my wood in a bucket filled with water and put a basket with rocks over it for like 1 week and it should fully sink... bigger wood like trunks and stuff takes quite some time and i would rather screwing to a slate or zipp tying it to a slate (slate will be under substrate wont see anything, but the wood)...

Thanks everyone ! funny thing is these pices of wood are tiny i cant believe its not sinking... i boiled it for 3 hours and nothing.....

Put it in a deep bucket with something to anchor it, the pressure from the water will make it sink if its ever meant to sink

I've had some large driftwood submerged for over a year and they still don't don't sink. I think it depends on the kind and how porous it is at the beginning. It leaches tannins like crazy, but if you have carbon in your tank, it will clear it up

It definitely depends on the kind of wood. Soft woods are going to float. Hardwoods are going to sink easier. With that said, boil it again for another 3 hours. I've seen moderate sized pieces boil for 6-8 hours before they sink. You also have to get them under water for a time before the pressure will make the gas seep out. If you just leave it floating on the surface, the gas has no pressure to make it leave the wood, and it will never sink.

some wood, like cypress knees or palm, will not ever sink. i had one piece of some kind of hardwood that was wet when i got it and sank fine at the time but once it dried out i soaked in for months and it still wouldnt stay down. i usually use SS screws and anchor it to a piece of quartz type slate or use aquarium sealant. i am sure that the black epoxy that reefers use for rocks would work too.
