  • Mesh cover

I have been seeing a lot of DIY mesh cover for reef aquariums lately. Does anyone know where to purchase the mess? I need one for a 40 gallon breeder.

    Thanks

I did a write up on this awhile back.

You can use the window screen framing with the rubber tubing that holds down the screening, what I used for the mesh was part of a cast net which worked out well for me and did not block any lighting.

Yea, that is similar to what I am looking for. Just not sure where to get the mess from...Unfortunately I do not have a casting net laying around. LOL. However you gave me an idea...Maybe a marine store or something, or maybe I can find a cheap casting net somewhere.

another option is using the eggcrate if lighting isn't of an issue, forget which side goes down though.

I got one from walmart for not much, if you have several tanks you could do multiple tanks or get with some of the others and see if anyone else needs it.

I bought a good size net and shared it with others.

Yea I just don't think I would like the look of egg create and worry about it blocking light.

Yeah in that case the mesh from a cast net works wonders then, I used it to keep fish in and allow for open top and never had any problems with blocking light.

It even lasted a good time with a 250w MH and 4x24wT5HO running 8hrs a day for about a year.

will the window mesh do a good job of arresting water droplets from splashing powerheads? i want to protect bulbs but not block light.

Window mesh would not stop water and will block a good amount of light.

Casting net would be bes type of material. Hobby lobby does have a fine mesh, thinner then the window stuff. Material is in the fabrics and they have all colors and it's really cheap for a couple yards, maybe 4 bucks.
