  • Drill PVC for a Spraybar

I need for someone to drill holes in a 48in long 3/4in pvc. I have the tools to do it but I know if I drill them they will not be in a straight line. So if anyone is coming to the meeting tonight and do not mind taking the pvc home to drill lmk.

    Thanks
    Letta

Why do you need them in a straight line?

If someone wants to drill while they are over, feel free.

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

      Tim:
I was told that the holes had to be in a straight line. I do not want them to drill them tonight. If someone wants to drill them for me they can take it home with them and I will pick it up when they are finished. Thanks for the offer for them to drill at your home.

Interesting. I've had spraybars where the holes weren't in a straight line.

i think drilling in a straight line is just more pleasing to the eye, a slight spiral may actually be more turbulent and help prevent channeling through the tank...that being said i would drill my straight because i cant stand imbalance like that lol. if you cant find a driller helper, then you can but the pvc in a vice or even glue the scrap end into a tee (that you cut off later) and strap that to a sawhorse. now that the pipe wont twist, you can tiewrap a level to a fine flat metal file. hold the file perpedicular to the pipe and keep it level while sliding down the pipe. this should score the exact top of the pipe in a perfectly straight line (providing that you keep it level). you can now mark the hole spacing off and drill pilot holes with a small sized drill. drills can "walk" in soft materials but this can be minimized by using multiple drill sizes and enlarging the holes in a couple passes, depending on how big that you want them to be. the hole size will determine the flow through the spraybar, too small and you limit the flowrate of your filter. too large and you get volumetric flow but not velocity so less turbulance. its trial and error but start small since you can always enlarge.
