  • What's Best Glue to Use to Re-Attach the Plastic Handles on my Glass Tops?????

I have glass tops on my 180g Oceanic tank. They have plastic handles (the ones with the fake wood laminate look) that are glued to the glass tops. They allow me to open either of my glass tops to clean my tank and feed my fish.

After they come unglued, I remove the old super glue from the plastic and glass, clean the glass top well and add more super glue. I add a little weight on top of the plastic handle to get a good bond.

This works for about 4-6 months and I repeat the cleaning and re-gluing process. Is there a better glue out there than the super glue I'm getting at Home Depot? Don't know the brand, but it's not the cheap one.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Is there a special J-B Weld for glass and plastic? I've used the one for plumbing.

There should be one for special purposes but the general one should work too.

I use the regular one on a lot of things with excellent success, but you can check their website to see if one of their products is best for your particular application.

Hey Ron I have some handles that don't have to be glued. They slide over the edge of the glass. You can have a set if you want. I have about 50 of them. Anyone else that wants a set can have them too.

If you really want some super crazy stuff buy some weld-on 40. Warning! Wear some glove when using this stuff. It's like 10x super glue.

I have weld-on 16 but I don't know if that stuff stick to glass or not.

That is nice of you to offer. I would have liked to pick up some if I'd lived closer.

The handle on my glass top came off and I've used super glue, hot glue and some other means but they don't work very well. It would come off after a while.

Thanks for the offer. The space between the edge of my glass tops and my tank trim on top is super tight. I think this is due to the new plastic hinges I put on last year. This is most likely the reason my handles keep coming off.

Again, I certainly appreciate your offer!!!!!!! I'm going to do the JB Weld sometime next week.
