  • EHEIM 2211 + PURIGEN = reactor (it is for those addicted to the magic beans!)

I had my 2211 using "THE BAG" and purigen for a while, but still didn't thought it was being used efficient, so I decided to make it more as a reactor without really trying to mod the 2211, if you have one of this and well I assume any eheim classic you can do it.

You will need and eheim 2211 or whatever you want I assume the lower the gph the better.

A plastic container that can fit snugly & tight inside the eheim classic which means slightly smaller that the current diameter of the eheim, cut from both ends.

Stocking, whatever you prefer and makes you happy.

and Purigen whatever you want, I used 250ml

    1. Insert the container in the stocking
    2. Fill it with the magic beans (purigen) aprox. 250ml for the eheim 2211.
    3. Insert it inside the eheim,
    4. use poly-fill on top just to make sure no magic bean escapes to the propeller or the tank.
    5. Connect the filter and power it on, and that's it.

here is a video on how the purigen looks inside the 2211 sorry for the bad filming but difficult to reach that area since I have back issues.

Hmm, good idea. I may try putting a stocking around the middle tray in my eheim 2028 to get the same 'fluidized purigen' effect.

I've seen most built with the water filter housings that you find at HomeDepot for drinking water, etc. powered by a low gph pump to ensure a good length of contact time.

Raul, what did you find to use inside the 2211 that was fine enough to hold in the purigen?

so the container I found was just a plastic bottle that I had for cable ties that fits inside the eheim 2211 perfectly with some room to cover the bottle with a pantyhose, so ofcourse one side already is open the other side I just cut it to fit the height of the eheim. prior to put it in the filter I first put inside a pantyhose which is fine enough to stop the purigen and then insert the whole contraption inside the filter.

Also I forgot to say after the contraption I put a fine layer of poly filter to also avoid any bean to escape if it really happens.

The only good thing if you have a 2211 is that it was simple to set since I didn't really had to mod anything, and the pantyhose was able to keep the beans from getting out.

Your set up is definitely more baller and less work involved. Upgrade the pantyhose to the extra fine mesh and you could recharge it as it is

thanks, I will use the extra fine mesh next time it requires maintenance.

my wife says that I can probably find a bag similar to it in hobby lobby, where they have the wedding and babyshower stuff, it seems they used fine mesh bags for that type of stuff, so I ask her to look for them next time she is there.
