  • 125 Gallon Saltwater Build..

I am starting a build thread for my 125 Saltwater.

Last month, I purchased a used 125G system off of Craigslist. The glass on the tank was perfect with absolutely no scratches. The only thing was that the plastic braces on the frame of the tank broke. It did come with lights, stand and a few accessories. I was able to purchase the whole set for $200.

I sold the light, stand and the accessories for $250.

Basically I came out $50 ahead and had tank.

I purchased a new frame for the tank to replace the one that was broken. Cost $75.

Basically, this 125 gallon tank will be like new once I replace the frame and it will cost me roughly $25.

It will be a slow build, but I ill post pics as I go along..

The frame came in yesterday, and I proceeded to remove the old frame. I have been looking online to see whats the best method to do so. Most of the advice online suggest to use a thin blade to slide between the glass and frame to cut the silicone than slowly work the frame out. Those that have done it before said it would take about an hour or so.

Well, I decided an hour was too long, so I resorted to my own methods.
Basically, the old frame will be thrown away so I could care less what happens to it.
What I did was took a pipe wrench and from the top of the frame pried it out so that it would break in small pieces.
After the top pieces broke off, I just pulled the frame apart fron the tank.
The whole process took me less than 10 minutes.

Step 1 - Done. Now to clean off the old silicone and silicone in the new frame.

No reason not to fluff up the photo count with pin-ups

Nice start Hangman. Congrats on the tank pick up.

I am getting so many ideas for this build on my trip. The best idea of all is that 125 is just not big enough.
