  • Fx5 trick

So iv tried this in my Fx , and found it to work pretty well. Its a thin sheet of a micron type foam that can be cut to shape. So u take the sheet cut round circles to fit in the baskets. I got the sheet from Extreme fish n pets! It came in i believe a 36*18 sheet. So u get quite a few pads.

Pros, takes up less space then pure polly fiber. Can be placed at the top or bottom and other filter media can be layered. I liked that it can taken out and washed clean again with light preasure from a sink faucet.

Cons. May cause u to have to clean ur canister a little more often.

Wouldn't that cause the flow rate to drop since the fx is known to clog?

Yeah, having to open the FX5 to change pads every days will become tiresome... That's why I run no floss/pads in my FX5s. Just the sponges and tons of biomedia.

Actually, i ran these for about a month to test. Opened it up rinsed them and then placed them back. I know the polly foam clogs fast. I really like this material, and it doesn't take up an entire tray.

I guess it's got a lot to do with how much fish you got and how many times you feed them. I know that I'll have to open my FX5s every few days with my livestock and feeding schedule
