Lighting Parts from 'Nam.

I'm known for being very cheap, energy efficient, and low tech on my tanks. So over here in Vietnam, it's all cheap. Upgrading the tech but staying cheap.

Going to build a lighting system for my nano tanks using these bright white and blue LED Strips that I got for 4 bucks for 5 meters.

My gf back in the states told me that my 30gal tal hex tank blew it's bulb. I never liked that light anyways, the light wasn't bright enough for the plants bellow the top layer plants. So I bought this LED lighting thingy that is 20x brighter than the Marineland LED light they got for nano tanks at petsmart for the same price, 35$.

That light is going to light up the entire interior of my bedroom. Probably going to go shopping for nano tanks within the week and spending the last of my spending money on that.

The LED strip lights are the same ones I used in my 110 and 125 to do night lighting and they should be able to be cut every 3 leds. I paid $11 on ebay for 15 feet. On the 125 I put a strip of them inside each 36" light fixture and on the 110 I used aluminum u channel to mount them too that lays on top of the glass tops since the light in that one is mount to the top of the canopy. They both came out really good and I will also be changing all the fluorescents out for white leds in the next month or so.

One word of advice, unless you are really good with soldering get you some of the connectors for the strip. It's a lot easier and you can get a 10 pack for $1.00. After soldering 4 different strips I've decided i'm definitely using the connectors when I get ready to do the white ones.

Thats a cool light. I bet that will light up a room. does it give any heat?

It'll be warm but it won't heat up to the point where it'll burn since it is LED.

Frankie, I'm on a trip in Vietnam right now and won't be back till the 7th of August. If I have any extras after everything I need to do then I'll sell it. You could always try looking it up on ebay if you can't wait.

It uses the same wall plug as us? Or do you need to convert the power source

The 20W LED Fixture that he is showing will use our power here, although it doesnt feature a ground

Totenkampf- I can always add a ground to it later, it has the wire for it but it really isn't needed.

The big led can be found on Ebay and the strip lights can be found on Ebay and Amazon. You have to watch which ones you buy though. Some of the flood lights are 12v and some are 120v. also some of them ship from within the US and some are from overseas. I made the mistake of ordering overseas last time and it took about 3 weeks to get them. Some of the strip lights are 12v and some are 24v. You technically need a driver for the strip lights but I have one set that rus off a repurposed a/c adapter and another set that runs off an actual led driver so far it works fine. All of them get warm but not hot.

I just ordered a 16ft roll of the white ones for $12.85 from Amazon and a 40w driver for $15.00 so for $30 (plus free two day prime shipping ) my 110 tank will be getting changed over to full leds for daytime and night time. I don't know yet how bright the white ones are so I guess we'll when they come in. If the white ones work out on the 110 then i'll be doing white also on the 125.

it will work without a ground, but it is not correct to say that grounding isnt needed. its there for safety reasons so i would add the appropriate plug at some point if i were you. its great find for the price though, have you seen any with a more plant friendly spectrum? the ones on ebay like that are about 3500k warm whites...

Hm, what I got was daylight bright range and wasn't in the soft.

I don't think the strip LEDs will be bright enough for your 110, maybe as a nightlight though, unless you got the spotlight kinds. I'm using mine for the nanos since those tanks are pretty small and the spotlight for the bigger tank.
