Geral, check to make sure that the barbs where the hoses connect are not cracked. I had one crack like that and had to replace it with a DIY PVC QD. They work great, and, in my humble opinion, more robust that the Eheim product especially of you get nice schedule 80 valves.
I tried the o ring lubricated but it did not work
,Change the o ring and still leaking
I will go with sunny idea of PVC ball valve QD
And the output where u connect the hose to the head of the eheim it has a small drop so I put silicone RTV clear silicone I had here hope this fix it since I have seen it before.
Next time I won't put it in the closet after taking out for. A few months without use all this problems just pop up
I'll call it timing and luck. Lol. I don't see a new for a second coat of silicone,if your making a DIY. Just coat your threaded ends well and let them dry for 24hrs. They should be good if you used enough.
