  • Diy hob refugium

Im open to build this. Has this ever been done before? I know a glass company that does good work for decent price but, is it a good Idea to start a project like this? Any body here have any drawings? It's for my 26 gallon bow front.

It's been done. There are cheaper materials to use instead of glass. Be creative about it! The idea seems simple enough. If you need more ideas, take a look at a few HOB refugiums.

I think the easiest and least hassle way to make one is using a HOB filter and emptying the filtering area. You'd need to somehow cage off the space where the impeller is and still allow flow if you're going to put something live in there. I'd recommend either eggcrate or plastic mesh. If you're just stuffing it with microalgae then there won't be a need to block it off.

+1 IMO they have the most space of all the HOB filters.

I actually just made one myself out of an old filter, if you have a filter already it'll cost next to nothing to build. If you want pictures of mine just let me know and I can upload some.

Couldn't you just buy some plastic mesh instead of cutting up the basket thing? That way if you ever decide to sell it, you can take off the silicone and resell the filter as a whole.
