So I can't have anymore tanks in my room on the second floor or inside the house. I want to have a system in the garage. What concerns me is the weather mood swings have in Texas. I can't afford to get it insulated either. If I do have a set up system, any ideas what I could possibly keep?

Depends on what fish you keeping. People say you can't keep tropheus in the garage or hotter waters but I've seen them kept in garages and doin perfectly fine. Water stays around 84 in the garage.
hes running 2 fans on a open top tank

My garage door faces East and my garage was at least 110 degrees. The water got to about 95 degrees at the hottest.215g Malawi Peacocks and Mbuna

Yup! I seen it too many times. Not only tropheus but most fish dieing in garages without cooling systems.
84 degree water...bet he has a bunch of installation and keeps his door open so AC can come in too.I ate my fish that died.

Doesn't look like he has insulation in the garage. He uses his garage like any other garage. There no AC coming in. Actually my garage doesn't get that hot I have a timeout tank out there. Water doesn't get to the 90 mark. Maybe there's a diff if you have an attached garage and a detached garage also maybe that comes to play too

i put a 75 in mine and measured the temps over the summer, it never got above 85. this is, however, an insulated garage where the door stays up and there is an oak tree overhead so its about the best case scenario. i think the cool weather will be the problem. i could close the door and double the heaters but since there are large windows on one side of the garage i will bet it will get too cool for tropical fish. maybe a pond is the answer, jozle. if its deep enough it will stay cool through evaporation and due to the earth and you can cover it in winter.75G Standard - High Light Planted Community Fish
