  • Quick silicone question....

So, it's been a while since I've repaired an aquarium. Just so I don't screw everything up I need to confirm that I can use the GE #1 silicone to do the resealing.

Yep, same thing. Picked up 2 tubes at home depot. Now just need to strip the old silicone off the 100G and the 40G and reseal them. Thank you.

No problem. Had plans to do so with the 100G for sure. It's a bit harder to seal as the bottom is made of slate instead of glass.

More grip would be a good thing especially on the slate. Anyone know anything about this?

I've always preferred dow corning 100% silicone. It's sold in the DAP brand at Lowes and HD.

I thought Grainger was for licensed contractors only? Can anyone shop there?

Anyone can shop there. Lost of guys on MARSH buy their RTV silicone from them. They have the clear and black. Just make sure you get fresh tubes. The shelf life is about a year on it and older tubes increase the possibility of it not adhering properly. There is some info on the date codes on one of the aquarium websites, I don't recall exactly where.

                            Edit: found it.

                              Re: Quick silicone question....

I picked up some GE 1 window and door silicone tonight. I already started using it and noticed that it says "not for use in aquarium or below water line". Maybe I grabbed the wrong one?
