Quick silicone question....

I picked up some GE 1 window and door silicone tonight. I already started using it and noticed that it says "not for use in aquarium or below water line". Maybe I grabbed the wrong one?

they all say that i think, its a CYA kinda deal so they dont get sued if your aquarium leaks. its the safest one to use once cured. i have used GE #2 before too since it sets up faster but it needs more of a curing time due to the NH3 solvent.

the only silicone that i have seen that reads aquarium safe is the stuff from all glass cages, but i have read that it is rebranded GE silicone

LOL I used some and when I saw that I chunked the tube away and was about to scrape up all the silicone.

Home Depot actually carries DAP aquarium safe 100% silicone.

I've always preferred dow corning 100% silicone. It's sold in the DAP brand at Lowes and HD.

Yup, that's the stuff! I really like that it takes a little longer to cure so that when you make a continuous bead, it's still wet when you get back to your starting point. The GE tends to skin over really fast. Also, IMO the dow corning dries clearer and adheres better.

I'm making something for one of my tanks & picked it up today. 2 tubes was only around $8. Pretty cheap! I checked this thread before I went to HD to make sure I was getting the right thing & when the HD guy pointed it out to me I thought I'd share with yall. Hubby was going to get me the stuff Grainger sells since he's there all the time for work, but this stuff is probably just as good.
