DIY tank stand. 55G standard tank

I've been out of the hobby for a bit and now my kids are begging for another tank. I want to find a decently priced 55g (or bigger) and build my own stand for it. I've read that 2x4's can be used with 3/4'' ply on top. Are there any posted that go into decent detail about this? I'm pretty handy with the tools so it shouldn't be toooooo hard for me.

It's pretty simple. Google DIY 2x4 aquarium stand and you get a pretty decent idea of how to make one. Then add the plywood on the outside to skin it.

i personally dont put anything over the top, you dont want any chance of the wood buckling and making contact with the bottom glass. all the weight of the aquarium is on the frame at the edges so make a 2x4 frame and skin around the outside perimeter with plywood for added looks and strength. you can then paint or stain but a good idea is to use spar varnish and you will have a waterproof stand!

Kiko has a tank/stand/lights. You could buy it and make your own DIY stand if you don't like the stand or just repaint it.

I cut the top off an old entertainment center, added a few extra 2x4's and painted it black for one of my 55's. It was alreadyb 48" and had cabnits so it worked out great. Been holding strong for over a year now
