        first thing decide on a pump so you know how big to make the sump area

          O got you guys! Look at BRS! They have one online rated for 700 gph, that's exactly what I was looking for but the price isn't. I want to put a return pump in it so that I can have a slight filter plus top water removal.

            No. That brs OVER FLOW BOX isn't going to work for what you want to do. That's just not enough room to have a good filter system. You would have to block off about 3" of the back of the tank. So now your tank would only be 36x15x16 on that 40B
