  • Can I put a 150gl tank on the 2nd floor????

I have a friend that fell in love with a 150gl tank. He just bought a brand new 2story in Long Meadow Farms and thinks that 150 gl with the stand will break through the ceiling.

    Any thoughts on that?

As long as the beams are 2x6 I would not think that there would be a problem. If I were him I would try to place the tank above a down stairs wall for extra support. I am not a builder that that's what makes since to me.

He's really paranoid... said the builder says 40lb/sq ft which doesn't sound right....

If he is that paranoid then best thing will be not to put it in a second floor. Just because he is gonna be scared the entire time

The builder is stating exact weight ratio that is state mandated, not what actually exists. Building codes in Texas require 40#/sq. ft., but it is far more likely to be far higher then that. We had a similar question awhile ago and I remember the jist of it. It is entirely the owners call in the end though.
