trying to build over flow and sump ideas??

i am in the process of building my own overflow and sump now i just need parts and a few more ideas i have a hundred gallon pentagon aquarium and im not sure what size pvc pipe to use to get the appropriate flow and i due to not knowing that i do not know what size return pump i will need.


i am also going to be using a 20 gal long for the sump is that a good enough size for this project thanks alot

YouTube diyking PVC overflow. Your questions will be answered. Something like this has been asked and done several times. You could also do a quick google search or use the search function on this forum. There's tons of info on this forum in old threads

1inch pipe can handle 600gph. 1.5inch can do 800. Just bare in mind if you are doing the pvc pipe overflow that all of those loops will restrict the flow and little. Also, make sure you find a way to put a teeny hole in it somewhere as a siphon break.

yea i am wanting to do a pvc pipe over flow im wanting to make the one uarujoey made on youtube do you think 1 inch pipe will suffice there will be only six 90 degree bends

Watch the video. It'll tell how many gph each size PVC will drain up to 2". How much flow is all preference. If you want more flow, go for a larger diameter. If you want less flow then go for a smaller diameter

Search YouTube and Google, I did a good bit of research a while back planning to build one. I never went through with it though as I got a good deal on a hob overflow which was cheaper than the pipes. There are loads of guides available, Google will see you right

i just build my sump using a 29gal and acrylic, i suggest deriving from the idea of the pvc overflow imo looks ugly and bulky inside a tank

REALLY?? i guess the idea of a 1.5in pipe inside the tank and sticking U style is bulky to me than a regular thin low pro overflow box

Cool im gonna make a sump as well was thinking a 30l for a 125 but if 29 works good i may go with that
