  • Console TV tank.

I have an old floor standing console tv, I want to make it into one of those cliche tv aquariums. Any tips?

Make sure its good and water tight. Do you have any pics of the console available? I would use an epoxy they use to seal large plywood tanks.

Well basically everything I have seen has you removing the tube and mounting a premade or custom tank into it. Then using excess space for filters, lighting etc.

        Console TV tank.

The top is made into a hinged lid. For easy access.

Sounds like you have a good plan already. I think there was one similar on craigslist a couple months back.

What are the inside dimensions of the cabinet? How large of a tank do you think you'll be able to get away cramming in there?

            Console TV tank.

Well I am thinking about 20-35, depends on the filtration. I am a bit concerned about heat dissipation. I have LEDs but they still heat up.

I wonder if I could get some 200mm PC fans to pull the heat out and maybe that would work.

That'd work. Just like a regular ol aquarium canopy with lights.

so you are going to put a tank in the tv? or are you going to make the tv itself into a tank? i think it would be cool if you can turn the actual tv into a tank!

                    Console TV tank.

The problem with that is you have to be able to cut the CRT. That's super dangerous.

You can also cut slits in the top console lid to dissipate heat.

I would rather not mess up the look of the box.
