  • Drilling tank

So the sticker on the bottom of tank says "do not drill glass". How can I tell if I can drill the back?

YouTube has that polarized lens test but idk if anyone here has tried it. LMK if that really works or if there's another way of testing

I'd say no I don't have experience drilling glass but it may mean that the first drill or crack immediately spreads to absorb the impact. You could try and worst case scenario have to just buy another piece of glass tthat you can drill a hole in first and then reseal.

Why don't you just let him borrow your sonic? That should do the trick. ;P

The bottom glass in large aquariums is tempered. That's why it says don't drill. The sides, the front, and back are not tempered. They are safe to drill.

It will be fine... I have done it many times. All tankels over a 29 have that warning tag on them

Looking at it with polarized lens makes tempered glass look funny you can tell right away if it is tempered.

Not entirely true. Some tanks will have the do not drill tag on the bottom because it's tempered, but some tanks have the back tempered too. Mostly older or custom tanks. Generally the newer tanks is only tempered on the bottom

Usually new tanks still have a sticker on it i doubt someone has a brand new 10 year old tank lying around with an old warning label
