At the time I was searching for a 150, I was holding out for one with black trim but came across a deal that was too good to pass up. Unfortunately, the tank I ended up buying had oak trim. I'm rather picky when it comes to tanks and stands matching together so I thought of this as an easy way to change the appearance. I had already moved the tank to my apartment and didn't really want to haul it back to my parents house to tape it off and paint it. So, I thought of another way. I happen to have a friend who's father owns a formica business, so I measured out the length and width of the existing oak trim and had peices of formica cut to fit over it. For glue, I ended up using Gorilla Glue just because that's what I already had and it's waterproof. Here are the results...
I applied strips of glue along the entire back side of the formica, sized it up and c-clamped it to the existing trim. I let each section dry for an hour. As for the top peice, which still remains brown but is unseen due to the height of the tank on the stand, I still would like to get another peice cut to finish it off. Up at school in the Architecture building, there's a laser cutter which I intend to use for this task. Hopefully, this thread will become useful to anyone else who would like to change their aquarium to match their stand.
