With Johns help/ideas. I'm doing some nice mods so I can install a DIY sump.

How it is set up now (4x Eheims)


After the modifications


It is drawn with 2x 10 gallon tanks, I guess I could adjust them to 15 gallons for more holding power. They will be drilled and connected through bulkheads. Wet/dry is on the left side, couple 2g buckets filled with pot scrubbers with a micron sock pre-filter. Right will have the return pump and probably another micron sock after the pvc connection.

I'll keep this post updated with pictures when I get building. It's going to take some planning as I will have to break down the tank and leave fish in a couple buckets so I would like the install to go as quick as possible

Well, back t the drawing board. The guy at the petco near me says all the small tanks they get now have all 5 sides tempered glass and undrillable. I bet I could make a 20long work and have it just peek out on the right side for the return and have room to keep a canister

I'm probably just going to buy one to test. Curiosity more than anything. The petco by me does tetra tanks for the 1g sale, but I doubt that makes a difference

How so? Petco sells Aqueon tanks. Or did they pull a fast one and change that since I was there a few days ago?

So I was able to find a 36" 30 gallon tank to use. Probably better than drilling 2 together in the long run, plus more water volume.

So another idea popped up in my head. In the section of the wet/dry that is in the middle of the stand and always visible... what if I was to baffle off that section and turn it into a little freshwater planted refugium. Treat it like saltwater with opposite light cycles and all. Add a small light, but keep easy low light plants in there as an effort to help nitrates a little. Worth the effort? Or don't even bother. Just trying to make that space in the middle useful. I guess at the very least, I can move my tumblers to that section. I'd anticipate we having the tank 2/3 full at all times due to a 55g tank above it not needing to drain too much in case of outages and my wetdry media will be mostly out of the tank anyway
