Very nice Hung. What are the specs on the battery/batteries you're using?

How much did this setup run you? How is it comparable to a generator, price wise? If this thing is cheap its definitely worth it. If not I'd go with a generator. Sure a generator needs gas, but it also runs most of the house including fans and a tv...

IMHO, this works while a person would be evacuated, until they could get back with a generator.

People were not allowed back in town for several days after Rita

Thank You, The Battery I use Power sonic 400A and the Inverter Whistler 800Watt . The cost is less than $200 depend what kind the battery you use. for example battery at Sam's Club $70.00. Inverter 800W is $50.00 at Amazon and Battery charger is $33.00 and 2 switch $5.00 at Home Depot so it run around $160.00. This backup run almost 6 days for one air pump with 4 outlet ( Coralife air pump ) and I think it worth for my Tropheus when I have to evacuate for few days. Thank you I love HoustonFishbox. Also we have Tropical cyclone will come to us next couple days and I hope it not develop. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

Is that all you feel the need to run is an air pump?

No, I do 2 test : first is 2 air pump and 2 filter for 90Gal and 55 Gal and run more than 3 days and the one air pump with 4 out let run 4 tank 150Gal 90Gal 120Gal 100Gal and it still run strong after 6 days. so I think is not too bad for small unit back up. thank you for question. I will update next month for my solar test

Well done, Hung! Since I didn't have a generator at the time, I picked-up a couple of invertors from Norther Tool the day before hurricane Ike hit & built a set-up like this, minus the dolly. We even ran a small 600w microwave off of it as needed. I kept the charge up buy hooking up jumper cables to the truck for 15 minutes every 4-6 hours. Standard 875 CCA truck battery ran my 4 tanks & pond filters on 1 hour cycles every few hours for 4 days straight. Also, ran some small halogen lights & fan off of it. Like your battery level gauge!

I have a big invertor in my work truck. We had to use it a few days after ike. We have a big gas generator but it broke befor the first night was over. good to have backup to your backup. In 83 We lost everything to Alica.
                        Nice backup hung.
