  • 40 Gal Sump for my 250Gal fresh water tank

Just want to share with you guy my DIY Sump for my fresh water tank. I got 40gal tank from Petco ( $44.00). My friend give me some broke glass and the hardware store cut 10 pieces for $15.00 and GE silicone II for $6.00. So overall it cost me $65 for sump tank . I will have some plants inside the sump so it can reduce CO2 and control Ammonia, Nitrate. I will update more pics when I finish it. Optimized-IMG_3821.jpg

Looks good. Planning on running socks on it? Are you planning on dosing CO2 (liquid or gas)? If not, the plants will only really help with ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates. You shouldn't have any ammonia or nitrite once it's cycled. That's what the bacteria is for. Also, keep in mind that while plants take in CO2 from the water, they also release CO2 into the water. It's a common misconception that plants only take in CO2 and release O2. When the lights are on, they are photosynthesizing while taking in CO2 release O2. When the lights are off, they take in O2 and release CO2.

It's not too extreme though. I just mentioned that just in case you planned on using CO2. Honestly, I would say not to use it unless you plan on turning your tank into a planted tank. Which then, you can setup your refugium like a reef setup. Have the sump on a reverse light cycle. When your main tank (with plants) lights are on, keep the sump off vice versa.
