    maybe the hole on that sponge is too small or clogged up. I use a SS mesh guard instead, it saves space. They really don't make sponge for 2217 or any canister.
    I have the patience of a goldfish....

        What sponge are you using? I'm using the hydro-sponge pro and my 2217 works just fine

          If you have quick disconnects, priming is a breeze. I close the intake disconnect and leave the output open. Fill up the intake hose with water and make sure the hose is inside the tank. Then I open the intake disconnect and boom. Instant siphon.

          No need to suck on hoses or play with syringes
