  • Help - My first reseal was no fun :/

My used 125 sprung a small leak in the lower left corner when the stand was hit. After trying to find someone to re-seal it for me I decided to try it myself. I thought everything went well, removed and cleaned off all the old silicone, and although it wasn't pretty I thought I did a decent job of ensuring a good, although thick, re-seal.
This morning I woke to find some small air bubbles on the 2 right side seals.
I really don't want to remove and re-do it all, my questions are -
Will the bubbles be okay? (pics of the areas in question attached here I hope)
If I do need to remove the bad sides, do I have to re-do the Whole tank or can I do just the 2 sides without the bottom?

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm at the point where if this needs to be re-sealed I'm going to get rid of it!

Personally I'd reseal it again. You could be fine though. If you choose not to reseal it, just be sure to keep an eye on the bubbles to make sure they're not expanding. If you do reseal it, be sure to redo the whole tank or you're just asking for more issues. New silicone won't bond to old silicone

        :(
Thank you. I was really hoping I'd hear, "it will be fine!" lol
I knew in my heart that wouldn't be the case though.

Side note, will it be easier to remove the silicone before it is completely set? It's been less than 24hrs since it was done.

It could be fine, but I find it's best not to take chances when dealing with 125 gallons of water. It will be easier to remove before it's fully set. You might as well give it another shot if you still have supplies leftover. Tanks that need reseals aren't worth much so it wouldn't hurt to give it one more try before selling

I know I should try to fix it but I have more money than sense at this point... may be all the fumes from the silicone talking lol.
I'm ready to downsize too so it may be better in the long run.
Thank you so much for all your advice. I knew I was coming to the right place :)

No problem. Best of luck with the tank!

I think it'll be okay. Just keep an eye on it.

Just wondering what causes the bubble though?
Is it because too much silicone or you doing it too fast?

I think the problem was I didn't press into the corner hard enough. That was the last area I had to do and was feeling the effects of the fumes lol.

IMG_0180-Optimized.jpgIMG_0195.jpgit will do fine for few year until the silicone get harder than the water will getting the pocket air. As i would do go to Home Depot buy the corner guard ( less than $10) and apply with Lexal or silicone and you will good for leak free.

                        A. Hung, can you post a link please. So now you have silicone inside and outside.

                              I just bought a 75 due to the 180 leaking now :/
I'm up to my elbows in leaking tanks lol.

Once I get the new one set up I'll have a bit more time to consider all the options. When it rains it pours certainly is fitting in my house right now!
