I agree with hung. It should be fine. A few air bubbles in the silicone is not as bad as a few bubbles under the silicone. Hung is a pretty handy guy.

Thank you all very much for the help. Now that I've got a non-leaking tank in the living room I can think a bit clearer. Now I'll just have to decide which to sell, the 125 or the 180 that sprang the leak today and caused all the rushing about like a chicken with my head cut off. Remove all the silicon. I have done at least 8 tanks and never had an issue, except the first one where I didn't push it in the right way. Lesson learned and perfect track record. I have done small stuff like 29g, 35 hex, up to a 125.

I'm sure I will end up redoing it. Now that I've got both the leaking tanks broken down and all the fish have survived I'm not so flustered and in such a rush.
Plus my lungs need a break from the fumes

I'm going to move the tanks into the garage this time. This first attempt may not have been so bad if the tank would have been a bit smaller lol. I've never applied caulk, silicone or used a caulk gun before so my learning curve was quite steep for such a large project. Live and learn. At least I know what not to do this time.

My first was a 125. But I was in construction before so I painted and had used a caulk gun for silicon, liquid nails, and dap. Probably more. I still had a rough first go.

I have done a few reseal jobs. Prep is everything. Having a clean and well ventilated place to work. Making sure all the silicon is cleaned off the glass. the rest is the easy part.

Yes. Acetone to clean the seams is also good. Even if they feel clean. I just use a wad of paper towels or a shop rag and wipe down every seam before I mask them. It is not hard. I do not think the silicon fumes are harmful but they can get strong. Haha. It smells just like vinegar to me.

I'm so grateful to everyone's help. Thankfully this happened to the smaller tank, I can only hope that when I fix the 180 that I won't run into any issues. At least I know how to use a caulk gun now.
