Does anyone know who does restaining stand. I have a stand that is grayish in color, but the texture feels like sand. The surface is raise, not flat. Let me know.

Re: Fish tank stand restaining
You more than likely have one of the Oceanic stands in "Light Granite". This is done in a spatter type paint. I would think that the stand is made in something like MDF which will not take stain, your only option would be to sand it smooth and paint in your choice of color.

Re: Fish tank stand restaining
I've recovered those types of stands in a semi-gloss black before. They still have the texture, but I personally don't like the light granite color.
If you really want that particular stand stained, you may be able to get all the texture off, sand it smooth and get some of the wood veneer they sell at home depot. I think you either glue or iron it on. They make some fairly wide rolls of it in addition to the edge banding rolls (which are about 1" wide). Then you could stain the veneer whatever color you like. For the price of the veneer tho, you may just be better off buying another stand or trading for one. (I might be open to trade depending on what size it is).The ultimate oxymoron - Narcolepsy and ADHD.
Who says you can`t have it all??!!

Re: Fish tank stand restaining
This is what we did at the house here.. we used a orbital sander, took all of the bad paint off, then painted it twice with good paint, sanded that and then added in the end a sealer. The sealer for me is the most important step as it makes the stand shine and it locks moisture out of the stand..
