    Re: 150gal In-Wall Aquarium

Actually, the guy that's been helping me with the carpentry hurt his back and since he's been teaching me some things as we go, I'm going to be putting it on hold until he's better.     I'll probably finish the rest of the electrical(install an overhead light), plumbing portions(install drain lines), and research my auto-top-off system in the meantime.

That sounds really cool!!  We just installed a 110 gallon in our wall...when you walk in our front door. The back of that tank is accessed through our laundry room, so we had a cabinet built, that the tank sits on, and plenty of room for my husband to get underneath if he needs to access the Eheim filter he has down there. I think he wants to get a wet/dry eventually.

Most fence & hardware stores have a float valve for water tanks.   Mine cost about $7.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

How are you going to deal with the evaporation in the confined space of the cove?  Looks like you might be setting yourself up for a mold problem.  Maybe some sort of ventilation or dessicant to keep the humidity in check?

One thought I came up with... in the second picture there is a fireplace to the left of the tank,  maybe some sort of thermal barrier or extra insulation on that side might be in order. I don't know, the picture might be deceptive and you may have plenty of room.

I recently join the Dallas Box, and snuck over here to look through the planted tank section for some research... anyway I was thinking, with the lines running outside, you could easily build a float switch wired to a pump inside a 55 gallon barrel tide to your rain gutter system (maybe a little roof or shed around it to keep out most leaves and a wire mess on the gutter system). Might be a great, cheap source for top off water and with the amount of rain in Houston you could probably use it for most of your water needs. No city additives (some dirt and sticks, but that could easily be filtered or pulled out by hand). If you ended up having too little rain, simply fill it up with your garden hose (btw, in the RV section they sell special "for human drinking use" hoses, usually white) and treat it as you would normally.

I really love the in-wall-tanks and can't wait to see yours up and running.

Wow! It looks like you found some time to work on it! Do you have an estimated date for finish?

id have put some 6x6 pieces of wood under the main frame to support the wood. im sure the 2x4's will hold, but id never stop thinking about coming home to a flooded living room.

Im sure its gonna look awesome when its done. If you need help with the drywall, and you dont live too far away?, give me a pm. I used to be a construction superintendent for TJMaxx.

I somehow dont think the apartment owner would appreciate me doing the same thing, but when i get my own place i'll be asking you for advice..

I'm almost there. I've still got a little bit of wood work to do on the stand and I'm adding two wood boxes above and to the left of the tank to give my electronics a place to live, because I'll be getting a plasma screen to go above the tank.

I also need to make a decision on the plumbing and valve(s) I'll be using. Then the drywall will go up.

I was wondering what you decided on for filtration/plumbing. Also, how are you going to control moister within the wall?
                            Thanks,

Still haven't decided on plumbing. Filtration will be a couple of mag350's that I already have.

For the moisture, I'll have a vent register above the door. Also, I'll have two exhaust fans pushing air out into the family room.

A Plasma screen above the tank? IMO, I'd rather watch the fish than the TV. I guess it's a testosterone thing, huh? Just don't get a crick in your neck!
