    Re: Texas Holey Rock

I'll bring one van. Tiapan and I will be coming.  I think contributing to them monetarily is a great idea.
$50 between everyone? Shall we base it on the percent of holey rock/slate collected from each individual?
I think someone mentioned if anyone is going to sell the stuff after we get it. I'll only speak for myself here.
I will not be doing this.
I'm only gonna get enough for my tanks, and leave the rest.
(Keep in in mind I have about 10 tanks at this point!)
I'm not trying to profit from the generousity of others... and don't think anyone else should either.
    <<stepping down from soapbox>>
With this said, let me the first one to thank Geoff for extending his kindness to the tropical fishkeeping community.

August 5th at this time will not be a problem.

My Aunt's sister Tina's land has piles and piles of Limestone and other slate stone.  It rains, and more rock is uncovered. The rock is litteraly everywhere on her land.  My Aunts Brother Eugene also has a bunch, but Tina already has some of it in piles.

It will not take much to dig pieces up, but some pieces will be huge and need a sledgehammer for busting up.

I would like to know about how many at this point intend to go?  I am asking this because Tina sells this rock to people for building fireplaces, campfires, landscaping, and other building materials.  I got the family hookup, and I doubt there will be anycharges.  BUT...I dont want to show up with more than 3 or 4 trucks or so, and intend on taking a ton or more and not pay something.  If we take a couple trucks no problem I believe.

Basically, we need to pay them in beer, and most likely give them 50 bucks or something.  We all know this rock is 1.50-2.00/lb at pet stores, so a little something for them is nothing.

I think we should also intend on picthing some in for each other to cover some gas money, and an ice chest or two full of beverages of choice.

I am going to call Tina Saturday and get the details, I just would like to be able to tell her on how many trucks we intend to fill up.

I just got back from the Xiphophorus trip to San Marcus and we did not bring back any rock but I am doing a lot of clubing lately and Patty says I have to cut back on the trips, gasoline and money so I am going to have to wait for the next trip.

                  Ok, Here is the deal...

She wants two cases of Coke, Coca-Cola here favorite.

We have to be gone by 4:30PM because she has to get ready for a birthday party she is having.

We can take all the rock we want, some rock is already in piles, some rock rock will need dug up, and some are just lying around.

We need couple shovels, probably a wheel barrow or two, and one sledge hammer.  Probalby going to need sunglasses/saftey glasses for this.  Also I think we should pack a case or 2 of water in ice chests.  So bring ICE and or ICE CHEST.

                  This is the plan:
LEAVE Aquarium World out on 290 at 7AM this Saturday August 5th

ARRIVE Burnet, Texas at about NOON and call my Aunt's Sister.  We will then follow her to her place outside of town.

While we are there, we give her the (2) casses of Coke, and we start digging.  We have till 4:30PM to get all the rock we want from what we dug up, took off piles, or picked up from the ground.

                  LEAVE Burnet, Texas 4:30 PM
ARRIVE Aquarium World in Houston at 9:30PM to drop off car poolers.

                  Go home...

I think people that car pool should pitchin some gas money.

I told her I expected about 10 people.  Please confirm by posting  in this topic or contactin thru PM to me or to armthehomeless.(Tim)

I am expecting that everyone that goes is getting rocks to go into their tanks.  If I find out that anyone is selling any of this rock, you will never go on another trip with me.  This is rock being given to us, and NO ONE should have any profit from it.

                  Thanks,

                  Geoff

Well put! I'll bring the cases of coke. I don't have any tools currently, but can get ahold of a sledge and a shovel by Saturday.

Hurray i was able to get someone to switch with me for work. that means i can go for the rock expedition.my cut  of the rocks will go mostly to tim and one other friend that cant come to the trip since i wont really need any myself (just like to help with projects of all kinds) and for that coke does she want it in cans or the old style glass bottles? because i know i like coke out of a bottle better.

I won't be able to make the trip, but if anyone's willing, I'd love to get some of the rock. I'm looking for two similar size big pieces for my 150 In-Wall. Perfect dimensions would generally be 27"H x 18"D x 24"L.

I'd glady consider it a donation and would give you all of the rank and privileges of being a site donor! ray:
