I have used DIY carbon bottles attached to a powerhead to chop the bubbles and it has worked really well for me. I am starting a 20g long planted and since it is small tank with small fish I don't want to use a powerhead.
I've seen a $40 kit that has a clear plastic dome that I guess traps the carbon bubbles underwater (I don't know how or if a water current moves over the bubbles). I've read that just having an airstone to diffuse doesn't do much, cause the bubbles just float to the top and pop.
Has anyone used a dome and it needs a current moving over it right? I like the DIY style. $40 > soda bottle, glue, tubing, check valve, sugar, yeast, baking soda, water
