"I build mine out of 3” thin wall PVC pipe. I cover the ends with fiberglass screen wire. I let all the water run to the ends of the pipe where it runs down the side of the glass. It creates very little surface flow and I have spawned fish with the filter running just to see if I could. I have built them for divided tanks and single tanks. I originally built them for a friend of mine who had to go out of town a lot and needed something where he did not have to do water changes every day. These have proved to be very effective.
