I need one of those adjusting attachments!

My siphon hose is 1-1/4 so if it works put me down for one John!
I made one with the 1-1/4 and it drains my 125g in about 5mins!

Sweet. I just made one out of some 1-1/2" PVC that I had laying around. Gotta buy the hose now.... that stuff is expensive! Might end up getting that larger diamter garden hose for $40 or so for 75 ft. I have a decently long distance to go to get to my yard.

peter-Don't use the spa hose it's to stiff. they sell a drain hose a Lowes that is 24ft long and runs $8.00. buy 3 sections of that. I think the diameter is 1 1/2". or get the flat blue sump hose.

EK this thing will work for you good

I got all my tubing from Jehmco and it was cheaper to have them ship it per foot than to buy it from Lowes or Home Depot

over by the sprinkler & irrigation dept. very back wall next to the water filters. this hose is thin but works good. you will need to link them together with some pvc & clamps. if you get a small hole they sell some rubber tape in the plumbing dept that will fix it.

                the link

yea,I stepped on mine and got a pin hole. just a few wraps with that rubber tape fixed it. If you got 72 ft thats a long run. you may want a hose real. so winding it up will be easy.

Bringing this one back from the dead.

I made one of these and it works awesome. I'm wondering if this could be modified. Currently, I use this to drain my tank, but I also have to carry a python in the house to vac the poop in the sand. Is it possible to somehow add the python inline with this device so I don't have to run 2 hoses through my house?

Input from DIY masters is appreciated..

Honestly Thomas, I drain my tank using a 16ft 1" spa hose out the nearest window, drains all of my tanks quite quick.
Then I have a complete setup for my filling which all its job is to do is fill my tanks up.
The only bad parts is I dont have a good system to go though the sand and clean it up. I have a lot of water movement which helps with cleaning the tank but one of them its kinda bad in and I am thinking of some way to make a system where I can drain the water back into a sock and into my wet dry and this way I dont shut off the system while cleaning my sand bottom and the only thing that it would do is clean the bottom.

I don't vac sand. I have a very thin bed of it in all of my tanks. I use the python to clean my sumps every 6 months or so. Water movement is the key. Stir the sand up sometimes but really never do it. Powerheads & Micron socks make my fish life easy.

attach a piece of pool vaccuum hose (the blue kind with the white rings on it) to the end inside the tank. flexible enough and you could move it around the tank. just a thought i had while talking to john the other day
