another good reason to use carbon for replacement water. google trihalomethane. I will post link in a bit. I know our dechlorination products will not remove this stuff. carbon filtration is the only way. oh ya i'm on lifeguards computer. this is fshfrk
John... with my water in Katy (remember 1.0 ppm total) :P Â how fast you think I could run the water though ?
When I stop by your place one of these days soon we need to talk some more..
PS for those of you who is asking what I mean by 1.0 ppm.. Â The area I live in -- ie Katy TX has the about lowest total chlorine and no chloromines in the water that fshfrk has seen... Â he even commented about wanting to move out here because the water here is so clean..

Hey here in Waller my chlorine is real low too. Frk hooked me up with a homemade carbonbottle and it's awesome. Thanks frk. Â Anyone wanna buy some chemicals? Â LOL john I might have to get a couple more bottles from u to make me another
jesper I think 2 gal a minute. try 3 and test for chlorine. The carbon filter you are making you might get 5 gal a minute. if you get the pelletized carbon I would put about 4" in a bucket and stomp it with a 2x4 to crush it up a little and repeat. this should help efficiency  APJ- you know those bottles are not a problem.
Dude. YOur the man.....where do you get that much carbon. im sick of the little boxes. and also ? how long does carbon stay effective ? i change mine out way too much i think

This design for a carbon filter did not work. But it does make a great sand washer. I now use the 15ft snake carbon filter. I changed the carbon Aug 1st. So now it is 6 1/2 months old. I figure I change about 1,000 gallons a week. So maybe I have run about 25,000 gallons thru the snake. Tested it for chlorine removal 3 weeks ago when Mike1409 came over. The carbon was still removing 90% of the chlorine. The 10% chlorine left was just attatching to organics and not affecting the fish. I have not used any dechlorinter since I started using this filter. But it is time to flush and refill it with new carbon. I am going to do it Now.
I could have used it for years and probably with no problems. It's just that it's peace of mind. Bring your's down and I will repack it. I have just enough carbon left.
