  • Wet Dry - Plumbing question

Here is for all you experienced plumbing folks.

I just got a 150 tank and boy is it heavy..  It is pre drilled , two holes on each side. There are two pairs, 1 inch and .75 inch pairs.  My question is why are there so many holes drilled. My first thought would be that the one inch (1 on each side) goes to the sump , and the .75 inches are for the return.

Should I do 1 on each side or should I do both right side for the sump and both left side for the return.. I will have this tank on wood floors, so I do not want any mistakes. I will definately take my time on this one. I actually will have 2 big tanks in the house, and everything else in the garage.

I am a noob to plumbing so no laughing :))

2 holes on each side probably means two for the drains and two for returns.
They are prob on either ends of the tank to improve circulation at each end and for redundancy. Just in case one gets clogged, you won't end with your tank overflowing.

Personally, i would use both the 1" as drains and both 3/4" as returns. It should give better circulation on both ends without overpowering powerheads moving water from one end of the tank to another.

It is important to use the smaller diameter for returns, otherwise you may need stronger pumps to produce the same amount of return current if you do it the other way round.

    good luck!

Re: Wet Dry - Plumbing question

        Coolios,  I gots another problem.

So, my brother brought my spare 125 up from New Orleans with the stand that I wanted to use with the 150 I just got.

The problem is that my custom stand that I made for it won't fit the nice wed dry that I just got. Darn.... I will have to find a 30 or 20 high to make a custom wet dry.

I don'k know what else to do, I would rather not do canister, but that is an option. I would rather do a wet dry setup since it already has the plumbing for it.

What do you guys galls think

Post a picture of that stand... maybe you can remove a panel to slide the WD into place and then reinstall or maybe mod one of the braces or something to get it done....

No sorry that won't work. The stand has two cabinets on each side with doors and the middle is open and has shelves on it. It was a custom stand that I had made when I first got the 125 a long... time ago. It used to house my arrowana. Back then I had a mag 250 on it so no need for that much space.   I forgot about that.

Suggestion would be to build your own stand... This is what I did.
Other option is going out and getting one somewhere... there seems to be several stands constantly for sale.
Make sure that it can house what you need.

Like the others above... NO WAY would I use only a canister..   Your tank is pre drilled and wet/drys' are the BOMB !!!

You could easily make a cabinet that sits next to the tank then.... plumb it to the remote cabinet and then back up to the tank.
