  • Striped some Cyps Today

I have had so many females holding fry over the past 6 or 7 months since I bought this colony of cyps from one of our mods here. They are the most active breeders for me, even surpassing the cedar point gang when it comes to holding fry.

But I've never seen any fry in the tank, I figure the petricolas or my mpimbwe juvies get them as soon as they are spit or maybe even the male cyps, so today, with Fishlady's help we removed all the rocks and other decorations and scooped up a trio of females packing large groups of fry.

We tried not to stress the colony or the females too much but were able to collect about 20 baby cpys all about a 1/2 inch long. Maybe Fishlady can get a picture of them sometime soon and post it here on this thread for you all....

Have a great week everyone, I'm just a couple hours from heading back up to Grand Prairie for another week, maybe my last one, I find out how my two interviews went on Monday afternoon, with any luck, I'll be back in Houston permanently in July.

Fronts eat cyps in the wild. Jumbo cyps will eat their own fry as well, if the fry aren't given sufficient hiding places (I don't know this to be true for non-jumbos). I've found that lots of rockwork that extends to the surface helps... as does having fake plants floating on the surface.

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Sweet.... I just had one my cyps spit, and like you there are no young to be found in the tank. I was wondering where they go myself, so I was wondering the same. Do I need to strip them to get anything out of it.
They live with Occies and Xeno's and ABN's which I figured they would not be eaten in that tank, but there is no doubt.. they are all gone.
I have another two holding and I am thinking I am going to have to rebuild the rock work as Cyps supposely in nature spit the young into crevises and then they part ways never to know what happens to their young. Cyps do not eat young fish, they plankton and small brine like creatures that float in the water coloum. Xeno's are the ones I am thinking that could be the culprit, but with the exception of going for food at the surface, they mainly only deal with the what is burried in the sand.

Do you have a wet/dry on that tank, Zulaab? I think I may know where some of your fry are going...

I have been checking my wet dry, and I also have plastics plants in the tank, but nothing seems to help with the fry, Fishlady and I, plan to eventually get the cyps their own tank down the road sometime....
