  • Angelfish spawn pics from laying to free swimming...

So far my first spawn is going well...I have around 35 healthy free swimmers in their second week of swimming around. They are growing fast and some are now starting to show the black markings of their father. I'll keep updating this thread as they grow...I will need to sell some of them when they get to the right size so if you are interested let me know...The parents are very hardy and had success on the first try! They also grew the fastest and are the largest of all five of my angels. I've had them since they were the size of a quarter.

They laid eggs on July 18th I think...

I need to take some pics of my brine shrimp hatchery....by using a t-connection I was able to share the airline from the sponge filter and use it to bubble a plastic dixie cup which I can place inside the tank so it can maintain a temp of 80 degrees as the tank water is. Its held in place by the tank cover and the rim, and it last me a few days before I can just toss the cup and brew another batch. That way I dont have to worry about bacteria building up by re-using the shrimp hatchery. Also, I am able to save some shrimp by freezing in a small water filled container and that will hold me over until the new batch hatches. The babies love the BBS frozen or live.

When I use the live shrimp, I simply take a small tupperware container and place a coffee filter halfway down in it. I use a turkey baster to squirt BBS into the filter from the dixie cup. Once I have enough I can pour the saltwater back into the dixie cup. I then take an eye dropper and using tank water squirt it on the BBS in the coffee filter to rinse them with the fresh water. After a few squirts I suck some up and feed the babies.

Its a much easier process than I thought...and much easier than messing with brine shrimp nets.

I'm also keeping the sides and bottom of the tank wiped down and clean everyday using a standard algae scrub brush, especially shortly after feeding time...and I do a 50% water change / debris vac every two days with prime.

              So far so good!

                    UPDATE:

They have grown fast! I am currently weening them off of BBS and onto NLS flake....they also eat some Hikari First Bites mixed in...but they are big enough to handle crushed flake. I'm going to need to start moving them soon! Anyone interested in some angelfish? :)
