Breeding Celestial Pearl Danios

Just wondering who all is keeping/breeding these pretty but endangered fish? For those that don't know Celestial is the new common name for the Galaxy rasboras.


I have a group of about 40 of them in with CrystalRedShrimp in hopes that they will produce babies. I have had two spottings of eggs but they were nicely lined up on a leaf or twig so I don't know if they belong to the Danios. I have Sidthimunki's,Otocinclus and shrimp in the tank with the Danios so it could be any one of those laying the eggs which I have yet seen hatch. The last batch of eggs I found I accidently siphoned during a water change but this batch I recently found is just sitting there amonst the foliage.

There is about 5-7 eggs lined up on a little twig just as before but if anyone has seen eggs from this sp. it would be great if you chimed in to help a brother out!


just some params for those that want to know....

30g planted tank.....with high light co2 and full fert dosings
Aquasoil which lowers KH/PH etc

Ph....6.8-7.2
KH....5-6dKH
Temp....74-77f
Lighting....9hrs a day
W/C.......50-60% Weekly with tap water
Food.....NewLifeSpectrum which has plumped them up from their sucked in stomach state!
Ammonia......0
Nitrite....0
Nitrate....barely anything and only so cause I supplement through ferts.

Had any luck breeding these............i wanna buy some if u have some fry/adults.Have you seen them for sale any where in town.

Not sure if they are reproducing for me but most all my females are showing the black line by their vent and supposedly that means they are breeding.

The tank is heavily planted but I'm sure there are some in there somewhere.

Fish gallery and Fish Ranch usually have them but prices are about $10ea.

yeah saw that have just start a 5 G nano was looking for some nano fish. Any Ideas??????

Yellow burma rasboras
Boraras...the whole list of them
Rainbows.....the smaller sp. Of course
Sparkling gouramis
Jellybean tetras
Guppies
Darios badis

You linked the same page twice Walter. I became a member of this one celestial dedicated forum but it sucked with really old info and the whole thing was very repetitive and gave me a headache.

The last issue of Fish or whatever had a really nice article on Celestials, had them on the cover too.

thanks for the ideas Q i am considering the Badis and the jelly beans the only ones i have seen around. I am also thinking about some shrimps.........

fish gallery had some celestial pearl danios a couple of weeks back for $6 each, i think you had to buy 10 for the $6 each price.

They were in one of the tanks facing the SW section.

I think that whole tank died. A lot of the Celestials that were coming into the LFS where wasting away and all had sunken stomachs...

I peeked into the two eheims and I saw a ton of CRS juvis so I decided to net them back into the main tank when I found about 20 or so of these....





I am guessing these are the Celestial babies since the intake of the filter I found these in is stuffed into the "Java fern forest" which most all like to inhabit or seek refuge in.

Poured them back into the main tank along with tons of little CRS babies and juvis then put sponges over the intakes so hopefully next time they will just grow up in the main tank......and to think I just hose off my media and filter when I clean.
