  • Mollies breeding...little scoundrels!

I think my mollys are..........doing "it." Im so new at this, I did not expect this at all! I just started my tank on 7/31/11 and added my fish on Sunday 9/11/11. A total of 7 mollys (some dalmation, balloon bellys, and lyretails), 3 panda corys and 1 male beta. (20 gal)
Last night I saw one of the mollys chasing another and acting "strangley"...I'll leave it at that. Since this, I've been researching that most mollys you buy are holding....WHY DONT THEY TELL YOU THIS AT PETSMART? A warning would have been nice. A few of my fish are quite fat.

Male fish can be so vulgar!! Im mainly kinda just ranting ....

Haha! Told ya! They usually end up having a dark spot toward the back of their bellies, which will tip you off to the fact that they're gravid (preggers!). A week or two later, depending on when they conceived, you'll have molly babies. They'll get eaten unless you take them out or give them plenty of hiding spaces, in moss balls or heavily planted areas. You can also put a pregnant mom into a breeding box that you hang on the inside of the tank. You can buy those easily at any pet store.

They'll be breeding a LOT. So you can leave the babies to fend for themselves and that way you'll have some population control... or you can get a breeding box and just sell off your baby mollies once they're big enough for an LFS to re-sell. Have fun with it! :)
    All bleeding stops eventually...
