  • Breeding questions

I have NO experience in what to do with a breeding pair in my large 125g mixed cichlid community. I have had the 125g up and running for only about 3 weeks and I have a pair of dolphins that I've had for 5 days that are already spawning. I need guidance from people that have experience handling a similar situation. Should I move both of them? Should I isolate the female only? I've seen a few eggs fall from the mouth because she is being chased some of the time. Keep in mind I have quite a bit of flow in this particular tank. I have a Koralia 8 w/ 3250gph and an FX5 also. They've been at it all evening. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Personally I'd leave them to learn how to naturally care for their young

I had read information from the very link that you posted last night, E. My main concern is that this particular tank is very busy and I'd like to actually get some fry out of this. Last night they were spawning with an albino convict who kept getting in the way. Convict managed to get 3 or 4 eggs. A few others chowed down on some eggs last night also.

Unless you plan on setting up a tank just for them i see no point in trying to separate them since doing so would probably stress and be as much of a distrubance.

If they've bred already and she's packing then you could try and net her and keep her on her own to raise the brood.

What type of fish are breeding? If you don't want to start a fish room, I suggest leaving them in the tank and let nature take its course.
              Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Blue Dolphin and I can't help not starting a fish room. I think I have a problem. 2 in living room and 2 in office... and one in garage waiting for silicone to cure. I feel like I am spiraling out of control. What do I do?

Did you have to pay a pet deposit or just promise to rent out a bottom floor apt?

Lol, it will happen to all true fish lovers sooner or later.

You know, I honestly like equipment hoarding more. I should how you ADA stash the next time you stop by. :)
