I just went in to look at my planted tank and I've been so disgusted with the thread algae growing in there. It's taking over my tank. I was glaring at it and noticed tiny little fishies in there! I only have two white clouds in there so I guess I got lucky and got a male and a female. I left the algae in there in hopes they'd feed of it and get all plump (I don't expect them to eat it all, just to eat some for their benefit, assuming they do at all). I've never had fry this little before and now I'm afraid to do any water changes! Now that I mentioned that I'm afraid they'll get sucked up in the filter. I guess I should cover the intake with something. Anyhow, loving the fry! I'm so proud. :love:

Congrats, I just got my second batch of guppy fry as well. You probably have one of those canister filters. I've heard of people sucking up fry in those. And when they find them they are usually fine. I don't know what you keep in that planted tank but fry always seem to get eaten. I am glad though that I have 8 little ones.Comment

That is GREAT NEWS! Would the White Clouds happen to be longfins? Mark and I have been looking for some.
Panty hose sounds good to cover the intake valve or I have also heard of using sponges.
A friend said she had a thread algea problem in one of her tanks and scuds ate it up quickly. Plus the fish can snack on the scuds. later, kenComment

Yes, the scuds DEVOURED the hair algae!
But I don't know if I would put them in there just yet, since your fry are so tiny.
Congrats! So exciting! IMO, the pantyhose are a good idea. Then I'd say just leave it like it is. I know the feelings you have toward thread/hair algae (believe me, I get upset just thinking about that stuff) but it's probably a great help to the little guys for food and hiding places, and it might even help them stay out of the filter's way. :)"Millennium hand and shrimp!"Comment

I know, cover the intake valve with thread algae, then let scuds go in the tank at a later date to eat the the thread algae and feed the fish.

The babies are white clouds, that's the only fish in the tank. My eel and brown knife are in a different tank. That'd be cool to breed those...hmm...
For now I'm just excited to see those little guys. They're the regular ones, not the long-finned variety. The filter is a HOB. There's at least 30 little guys in there swimming around. I hope at least half survive! So cute.58G Malawis
