Re: german blue rams are fanning eggs

I might have seen something transparent wiggling in Java Moss at lunch, but it was so small -it didn't  look like fish (more like a very tiny worm). And the rest of the eggs are gone now. Just in case I wil try to inject some infusoria in Java Moss when it's ready

Re: german blue rams are fanning eggs

If it's 24-48 hours - I might have a some survivals, I noticed them making rounds over the stone at ~6pm Monday, most eggs were gone over 1am -7am Tue-Wed night. But male didn't move anybody anywhere. Both parents are swimming around sometimes visiting the former nest.
Stone is also on the top of the driftwood and wraped in Java Moss - may be the hatchlings could have being washed away? Guess I just have to wait and see for few days.
I also separated female for some time yesterday, as male started to chase her for some reason, but then they both were swimming along the divider looking nervious, so I put her back.

Have a heart - They are the only fish in my tank that really like the other of it's own kind

No signs of any surving fry yet :( .
It also seems to me that male is gently trying to charm the female into having the second attempt while I am gently conditionning my lovely wife for a sight of  a very small 10 gal tank somewhere in the appartment.

When you win, remember to get the fish some bloodworms, and your wife a steak dinner... they will both appreciate it :)

Re: german blue rams are fanning eggs

OK, 2nd attempt and it took ~60hours for eggs to hatch at 82F in a brand new 10gal tank.
Male guarded eggs all the time (I removed the female back into community tank)
This morning he looked somewhat puzzled by wiggly eggs - wonder if he eats them by the time I get home. My son thinks he is just waiting forthem to get bigger before he eats them. I am affraid it looks like he does . Guess I will let him learn - he allready made some progress.

do you think removing the female would make him more likely to eat them because usually they would have both parents around?

I don't know, but she was less interested in parenting from the start. At least this time so far without her he got further.
                            I'll see how he does.

Checked on him at lunch - he is being a good parent   . Although he didn't move them to the pit - may be the flow pattern changed as I've put another filter in after they dug it. He actually scattered some gravel (!?) on the original stone and all the wigglers are still there wiggling hard. He catches the ones that come close to the edge picks them and then spits back into the center  . So, may be he knows what he's doing. Can't wait to show it to my son in the evening
