  • Fry tank

I am looking at setting my daughters old 10 up as a fry tank. I was thinking of using a internal filter and not sub. If there is the possibility of fry getting caught in the filter I may put the breeder net I have around the filter. Any thoughts or advice?

Sponge around the intake works or just a simple sponge filter would suffice.

Guppys and endlers right now but really any of my fish and shrimp. I have rams, angels, mollys, corys, and 4 types of shrimp as well.

I would do breeder net mesh around the intake. I have a sponge around the intake on my shrimp tank and after two or three days, I always have to rinse the darn thing to make the slow get back to normal. It literally trickles after a few days. Really annoying.

Think I'm gonna try the net first cause then I don't have to buy anything but filter media.

Well I have to start cycling a tank for fry tomorrow. We went to Disney World for a week and got home yesterday. We now have 30-40 endler fry, 10-15 yellow snakeskin guppies, and 10-15 black Moscow guppies all fry. I have 3 snowball shrimp and 2 cherry shrimp berried in the same tank as well.

Wow, nice job! Sounds like it was worth waiting out the woes. :) Congrats! Of course, you know we'll be needing fry pics.

Here's some better pics. I was surprised that the snowballs I got at the auction are berried already. I have my old 10 cycling right now I had a betta in it for a few days then put some mulm from my ac30 and an old pad from my daughters quietflow 10. So should be good in a couple of days. I'm hoping that some of the black moscows will be at least nickel decent size for the next auction.

The fry tank is going got it started today. Bought a new filter for my daughters 14 and moved her filter to the 10. Going with a bare bottom and have a sponge prefilter on. I have to let the black Moscow guppies grow out before I sell them as the male we had was bullied I think and died. He was missing half his tail for a few days then I found half his body on the filter intake.
