I agree with removing the large predators. Also, severums like a lot of fresh veggies in their diet. Spinach, leaf lettuce, romaine, kale and blanched greens may help condition the females to spawn. After you remove the predators and feed them up, try doing a large water change, lowering the temp a few degrees. That will often induce a spawn. A low-pressure area passing through can also do it.
MarkWhat are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

I will be adding more spawning places. Today the severums where making pits in the sand next to the slate on the driftwood.(Good News) Cant do much about the Catfish right now, kind of hard to move a 24" catfish. Especially since I will not let my catfish go to just any home.(She is my little puppy) But she is out growing tank.150 gallon - Mississippi map turtles, chocolate cichlids, red spotted severums

Of course, I have all kinds of other fish in the tank and my sevs have never spawned. I love them but I got too many other aggressive fish in there so they are not really the dominant fish which means no spawning activity.
If you want to unload any of your sevs, let me know--posted yesterday looking for reds, golds and red spots.
Good luck with a great fish.

"get another big tank for that catfish. problem solved " Lol I wish, college students are poor lol. I will sell cheap to a GOOD home. If the home she will be going to is really really nice I will give for FREE.
Well I will be selling the BGK, Bala and my Ornate Bichir soon but only because I want my 125 to be strictly a severum tank.
No severums will be sold ever! lol. I may let go 1 of my pairs(Red spotted)
I may move the tank decor around and then add some additional spawning places. with water changes.150 gallon - Mississippi map turtles, chocolate cichlids, red spotted severums

Ornate is about 10"-11".
That is actually what I would prefer, a baby sitter but I would have to be long term. Looking at getting a 375g in about 3-4 years. .
