Pleco Breeding

when i got my plecos about 5 months ago from TangoMike i didnt realize they could mix. I have what i was told a L-144 (female) and another one that has a Green Gene (male).
but they did cross breed, and laid eggs 2 weeks ago on Sunday.



i counted between 20-30 eggs. by the time i realize that i saw the angels taking bites at the eggs to i got the eggs and place them on the net and left it on top of the tank where there is alot of water circulation, i left them there 2 days and then place them on to a plastic container with lots of whole so the babies could swim better. well i didnt realize the lights where to close to them so the next day the eggs were floating. seems that i cook them. so i tho i had lost everything. well yesterday i was kind of doing a water change, i been to busy with my dad in the hospital so i pretty much shaked the plants to get the water moving and when i added water i saw a baby pleco that looks like the dad. i may have another one hidding there.

thank you.now i can say i can breed something else besides the Stupid Endlers lol. and i removed the tube where the angels lay eggs, i been broke and i need to but something to divide the tank when they lay eggs so they wont eat them.

Just get some more ABN.

LOL. i was not planning on breeding them. i didnt know they would crossbreed. i only have those 2 plecos. and well they did their magic. i will get a male ABN and a female Green Gene then. my tank is jsut a 29, so if i get more plecos it will be to crowded.

what do you mean? i didnt expect them to breed. i got this 2 plecos when they were about 1-2 inch long so mike didnt know if they would pair. i didnt get them to breed, i wanted to start getting plecos. what would be your recommendations towards that?

breeder boxes are inexpensive and might be your solution rick. be aware that male BN will tussle and a 29 gallon may be two small for two of them. i have two males in a 75 gallon and that seems about right. the submissive has enough room to get away from the dominate one. congrats on the babies!

yeah i been wanting to buy come caves. but i wasnt planning on breeding plecos lol. i been trying to breed angels and i havent been successful. this time was mainly luck.

First of all, L144 is NOT an ABN. They have black (some say blue) eyes, not red eyes. I breed thousands of BN's yearly and try not to mix the types but sometimes it happens. You will just get some of each dependending on the exact genetic makeup down the road in your spawns.

Black eyes? All the ones I've seen and owned have blue eyes with black in the center. I'm sure most of us know that L144 are not ABN.
