Care> care is what you learn from your mother and father. After generations of no parental care. They loss the ability to care for their own young. Also things like stress can make Mom and Dad eat their young. Thing like to much activity in or around their tank.

Breeding is instinct but to care for and raise young is not. Some fish lay their eggs and swim away never seeing them again. Others care for their young. That is what I am saying is not instinct.

Okay gotcha. Fortunately, I have not seen my fish do that: abandon the eggs or their young. However, I think they snack on the fry once in a while if they are hungry.

I heard that these guys will do that, which is why I almost didn't get them. They are just so pretty! I took a chance on them, since I also heard they are very fragile and can die quickly.
